Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kinder is the first year of a two-year Kindergarten experience. The program is age and developmentally appropriate with a hands-on approach to learning. The Transitional Kinder program is designed for the youngest Kindergarten students. This program gives the gift of time to students to grow socially, emotionally and academically.

The curriculum used in Transitional Kinder reflects the California State Standards for Kindergarten, but is taught at a slower pace and with greater focus on school adjustment, socialization, fine motor development and essential early learning skills. Transitional Kinder provides daily opportunities for students to develop social and academic confidence along with an introduction to Kindergarten content standards at a developmentally appropriate pace.

Transitional Kinder is not a “preschool” or “pre-Kindergarten” program. School hours are the same as regular Kindergarten classes and students participate in all regular school activities including field trips, assemblies, enrichment classes and special events.

Students whose fifth birthday falls between September 2nd and December 2nd will be automatically enrolled in the TK program. Students with summer birthdays may also be good candidates for this program and can be admitted based on parent request and space availability.

What's Happening in TK

It has been a great start to TK! The students are quickly learning all about their new school and their new friends. We had our first field trip of the year to Grandma’s Pumpkin Patch in October and look forward to several more throughout the year thanks to generous donations. We are fortunate to have many “specials” taught by our Enrichment teachers; music, nutrition, PE, art, science and writing. On Friday afternoons we get to join all the Kindergarten classes for extra music and movement time. It is going to be a fun filled year, learning the alphabet and numbers, doing science projects and getting used to being in a “big” school!
