HOMEWORK POLICY

Meaningful homework assignments can be a valuable extension of student learning time and assist students in developing good study habits. Homework helps the child assume responsibility, teaches self-discipline and reinforces skills. Students may be assigned up to 15 minutes of homework in TK/K and 30 minutes in grades 1-5 per day.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS

Your child's emergency contact information is a critical safety item. Students will only be released to the people listed as emergency contacts. Please make sure that all contact names and phone numbers are current. If you move from your present address or change phone numbers, please let the office know immediately. Thank you!

DROP-OFF PROCEDURE FOR HES CAMPUS

We have a dedicated drop-off area directly in front of the school on First Street. We ask that if you'd prefer to walk your child to the playground, please park in designated parking areas. Most of the street in front of the school is reserved for bus loading or drop-off only. Please do not park in these loading zones. If students are dropped off at the curb, please keep your car running, so that we can keep the traffic flowing as smoothly as possible. Children arriving after the bell at 8:00 am will need to enter the school through the main front doors only. The area around the school gets extremely congested between 7:55 am and 8:05 am, so we suggest trying to arrive a bit earlier to make drop-off easier and safer!

PICK-UP PROCEDURES FOR HES CAMPUS

TK/Kindergarten students are dismissed at 2:15pm at the Kindergarten gate. Students remain inside the gate until staff confirm that the parent is there to pick them up. 1st/2nd graders are dismissed at 2:20pm. 1st grade students are picked up at the entrance nearest the school library on First Street. 2nd graders are picked up on North Street at the entrance nearest to the 2nd grade classrooms. In both cases, staff remain with the students until they are picked up. Students who are not picked up by 2:30pm will go to the office to wait for their families.

FMC DROP-OFF PROCEDURES

If you drive your student to school, please use designated parking spaces and drop-off zones and remind them to use the crosswalks.  If you walk your student to school, please use the crosswalks on the streets and in the parking lot. At pick-up, please stay outside of the gates until the bell rings at 2:40pm.

ATTENDANCE

Arriving to school on time and attending each day will set your child up for a positive educational experience. Outside of illness or emergency situations, we hope that all students will attend school each day. Families can help promote positive attendance by scheduling appointments after school hours or during non-school days.

Students will be sent to the office and/or will be marked tardy if they are not in their classroom line when the bell rings at 8:00am. Our teachers work extremely hard to engage students in meaningful instruction and learning opportunities all day long and ensure that every minute counts. Students who are tardy (even a few minutes) miss the opportunity to line-up with their classmates and enter the classroom with their teacher to smoothly start their day together. Both sites provide supervision beginning at 7:30am each morning to help families with drop-off before the bell rings. If you have any questions, please call the school office at 431-3440 (HES) or 473-4449 (FMC). Thank you for your help!
